Meeting Minutes – April 3, 2017

SAA Student Chapter, St. Catherine University

Meeting called to order at 6:07 PM by chapter president Sara Butterfass.

Secretary, Treasurer, and SGO Liaison reports

David Norris read a summary of minutes from the March 13 meeting: officer elections for the 2017-2018 academic year, final preparations for the Resume and Job Seeker’s Panel (March 27) and the ePortfolio Panel (April 3), starting work on phase two of the WARM Journal digitization project, and the Minnesota Center for Book Arts (MCBA) community project.

Deb Eschweiler read a treasury report: We are still waiting for the spring disbursement, which is projected to be $135. Still awaiting receipts from individuals who bought food and supplies for the event on March 27; approximate costs were around $100.

Kristell Benson did not have a SGO update because SGO has not met yet this month (next meeting is scheduled for April 13) as the SAA meeting was moved up to avoid conflicting with SLA’s Spring Information Professional Panel on April 10.

Old Business

Resume and Job Seeker’s Panel (March 27)

18 students attended, up from last year. One-on-ones with Emily Asch, Lisa Calahan, Sarah Quimby, Margaret Stone, and Deb Torres went until 8:30pm, indicating that there were a lot of good conversations happening. Response from panel participants was overwhelmingly positive. Zach wondered if the format would be better as a town hall forum, with more opportunity for dialog between students and professionals. Molly suggested perhaps uncoupling the panel from the workshop session next time around and plan that as a separate event (LIS professional “speed dating”), bringing in a wider variety of professionals from different fields to meet with students.

New Business

Officer Elections

Sara is making a last call for officer nominations and is going to send out a ballot at the end of the week.

WARM Journal Digitization Project

Heather, David, and Zach are presenting on the project in 7030 this coming Thursday with the hope of recruiting more volunteers for beginning phase two of the project. The goal is to meet on Saturdays on weeks when there is no class. With Easter break coming up, May 6 will be the next scheduled date.

Minnesota Center for Book Arts (MCBA) Community Project

The project kicked off on March 25 with Heather Carroll, Deb Eschweiler, and David Norris, with project supervisor Jennifer Shaw.

Historically Accurate Costume Party

Deb Eschweiler is taking point on planning this year, so she would like everyone to send her ideas and suggestions for potential dates and locations.

  • Rare Books and Manuscripts Section (RBMS) Conference registration is open through May 20th. Conference in Iowa City, IA, June 20-23rd.
