Meeting Minutes – May 17, 2014

SAA Student Chapter, St. Catherine University

I. Announcements

Archive Fever, an interpretation of the art, archives, and special collections at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design will be held as part of the Northern Spark Festival on June 14 from 9:01 – 5:26. A group meet-up at MCAD may be organized closer to the date.

Money is still available for the SAA Conference in August. Deb Torres has offered to host an informal info session for new attendees and the date was set for Tuesday, June 3 at 6pm, location TBD. Four students agreed to attend.

Molly has information on opportunities for paid summer or fall internships. Anyone interested should contact her.

II. Tower project

Stewart gave an update on the orphan archives at the Minneapolis City Hall clock tower. According to Stewart’s contact the city has just put up a call for a records manager. For the time being the best course of action may be to wait until a records manager is hired. Though it will delay the timeline for the project, the plan to hire a professional is a positive development.

Backup summer project: Molly will mine her contacts for a possible project.

III. Summer meetings

It was agreed that the group should hold at least two meetings over the summer, and possibly an informal get­-together in August. The following dates were selected:

  • June 11 6pm the Dubliner (University and Vandalia, St. Paul)
  • July 9th 6pm, location TBD

IV. Events

Movie Nights: it was decided that the first movie night should be postponed until fall, when more students are on campus. This should be on the agenda in July or August.

Social event with other student groups: As this idea was Alison’s, it will be discussed at the next meeting when she is present..

V. Recruitment

A presence at the fall activities fair was discussed. As this is an undergraduate event, it was not seen as the best use of our time.

A goal was made to have representation at the LIS new student orientation (date?) and to make a pitch to the intro to archives class in the fall.

Annual Report. The annual report may be submitted on either May 31 or December 31. The group decided to wait until December so there would be more to report.

VI. Election

New officers were elected:

  • President – Andrea Hoff
  • Vice President – Stewart Van Cleve
  • Secretary – Allison Spies and Kate McManus
  • Treasurer – Cassandra Nelson
  • Media Relations – Laura Hulscher & Jessica Faucher
  • SGO Liaison – Cassandra Nelson
